In contrast to photography, Moholy-Nagy wanted the photogram – in which light hits the paper directly without reflection through the photographed object – to move on from the reproductive rendition of the visible to productive rendition. The technology of the self-portrait in the photogram was his invention, which he also called “cameraless photography”.
