New European Bauhaus
An initiative of the European Commission
How do we want to live? What kind of buildings, what kind of cities do we want to live in? The programme New European Bauhaus explores these questions in the context of the enormous environmental and social challenges facing us in the 21st century. Inspired by the historical Bauhaus, the programme aims to interlink various issues related to sustainability, functionality and aesthetics.

New European Bauhaus
The New European Bauhaus is a creative and interdisciplinary initiative, convening a space of encounter to design future ways of living, situated at the crossroads between art, culture, social inclusion, science and technology. It brings the Green Deal to our living places and calls for a collective effort to imagine and build a future that is sustainable, inclusive and beautiful for our minds and for our souls.
‘Even though the world today needs different solutions than were required 100 years ago, we can still learn a lot from the spirit of experimentation of the Bauhaus, from its openness to new ideas and its perseverance under difficult circumstances. The Bauhaus existed between the space of two world wars and under the shadow of a worldwide financial crisis. For students and instructors alike, it was essential to recognise available resources and use them creatively. In view of the challenges today, we must re-establish this creative relationship to objects and make it our own. I look forward to the dialogue and new experiments that the “New European Bauhaus” programme will set in motion.’
- Annemarie Jaeggi, director of the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung
