100 years of bauhaus in the west

The project also investigates the repercussions of these modern developments in the Bonn and Berlin Republic, a theme that holds great potential for the present day. The Weimar Republic is not viewed from the perspective of its decline and fall, but as an epoch that produced stimuli that were revived in the Bonn Republic.

The components of the Bauhaus Centenary will include among other things an opening congress in 2018 and, in 2019, diverse exhibition projects and events in cooperation with cultural and educational institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia. Contributing exhibitions will be among others the Leopold-Hoesch-Museum, Düren, with Neues Leben (New life), the Alte Synagoge, Essen, with Neuer Bund (New alliance), the LVR/LWL-Ämter für Denkmalpflege with Neue Bauen (New architecture), the LVR-Industriemuseum with Neue Stoffe (New materials) the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn with Neue Medien (New media), the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur with Das Bauhaus und Amerika (The Bauhaus and America) (working title) and the LVR-Zentrum für Medien und Bildung as an education partner for a congress in 2019.

Special projects will include among others Mies in Krefeld, in the framework of which the association Projekt MIK – Mies in Krefeld e.V. in collaboration with the city of Krefeld will show a sculptural installation by the contemporary artist Thomas Schütte, which will serve as a point of departure for lectures and debates and include an exhibition on the given topic.
